Chalk,
Handmade Japanese Paper
Coquelicot is a delicate exploration of gesture, impermanence, and the poetry of materials. Drawn with chalk on ethereal, handmade Japanese paper, the work captures the fleeting essence of a poppy—its lightness, fragility, and quiet strength.
The engraved gold leaf frame was designed as an extension of the piece itself, grounding the drawing in elegance and permanence.
Thierry’s focus was not only on the line, but on the harmony between hand and material—how the right “tracé” can evoke both movement and stillness.
“I wanted the drawing to feel like it had simply landed there—weightless, as if carried by a breeze. The paper guided my gesture as much as the gesture shaped the image.”
