Limestone and Brass inlay,
Wood relief
A study in contrast and composition, La Croix reimagines the ancient art of mosaic through a modern, elemental lens. Hand-cut brass segments are meticulously inlaid into a limestone-coated wood panel—then partially veiled, partially revealed, through careful sanding.
The result evokes the sensation of uncovering an artifact: glimmers of metal emerging from a raw, earthen surface, as if time itself had preserved and exposed them in turn. Both graphic and grounded, La Croix plays with form and memory—its bold geometry nodding to the familiar rhythm of tic-tac-toe, especially when paired with its counterpart, Le Rond. A contemporary gesture layered over timeless technique.
“As I sanded back the limestone, I didn’t want to reveal everything. There’s beauty in what remains hidden—like rediscovering a fragment of history.”
